Visigoths

Swords, spears, lances, pikes, axes, javelins, shields, and helmets, were the known weapons used by the Germanic group now known as the Visigoths, or Goths. They tended to carry their weapons through a belt around their waists, which is why some of their swords tended to be shorter and lighter. They also wore tunics with some eagle brooches. However since this Germanic tribe came before the Vandals,  they did not wear any real protective equipment for their back, chest, stomach, and neck areas.

Vandals:

The Vandals were similar to the Visigoths in relation to the types of weapons they used in battle. However, their protection gear was way more advanced and useful than the one worn by the Visigoths. The Vandals, unlike the Visigoths, work a sort of chain mail vests as a form of protection. This vest was one of the advantages the Vandals had on the battlefield since it would make it harder for their opponents to kill them if they tried slashing them with a knife or sword. However the were usually worn by higher rank soldiers since it would take a long time to make them.

Like most militaries in the world today, the uniforms worn by the armies are designed to be camouflages in the designated areas they find themselves in. However, compared to the Visigoths and Vandals, this uniform is way lighter since it isn’t made from metals. Some similarities that can be argued are the use of helmets and vests, but as time passed these were furthered developed based on the new types of weapons being used in war. As it is commonly known, today guns, rifles, launchers, machine guns, grenades and missiles are some of the technologically advanced weapons that the army has at their disposal in today’s age. This has changed the “chain mail vests” into bullet proof vests and instead of a sword in their belts, guns have been attached to them.
